Naturally Whiten Teeth


Much like our skin, hair & nails.. our teeth are a great reflection of our inner health. Our teeth are so precious so let’s stop putting liquid poison on them to get that bright shiny smile and go the natural route!

First off I recommend starting with an all natural tooth paste… the reason I say that is because Triclosan, an antibacterial chemical found in liquid hand soap, Dermalogica Skin Purifying wipes and Colgate Total toothpaste was found to promote cancer in mice. An additive found in liquid hand soaps and other common household products may be linked to cancer, a study has suggested.  I personally go for fluoride free because along with a shiny white smile I would not like a neuro-toxin added k thanks! 
Next up, NEVER use conventional mouth wash – Because it too, is filled with fluoride and not to mention peroxide and a host of other nasty chemicals that have quick access to our blood streams through our mouths.

Enter ” Oil Pulling” ( Organic, extra virgin Coconut Oil)  : The concept of oil pulling is an ayurvedic tradition used for thousands of years to clean and detoxify the teeth and gums. It’s the act of swishing around oil in the mouth for 20 minutes to improve gum health, with the added effect of whitening. Since oil is “sticky”, it navigates around your mouth, up into pockets and tiny areas where a toothbrush can’t reach. Think of it as a natural antimicrobial mouthwash, where it dissolves bacteria and pulls out toxins, food remnants and total grossness. The way oil pulling works is simple. When you swish the oil around your mouth, the bacteria “get stuck” in it and dissolve in the liquid oil.I am going to be really honest here… the first few times I did this I gagged because the solid coconut oil in my mouth felt so gross…but honestly just stick it out and the results are crazy!

So here it is: 
Step 1 – Grab One TBSP of coconut oil
Step 2- Let dissolve in your mouth and begin swishing around
Step 3- Swish around your mouth for 20 minutes, DO NOT SWALLOW
Step 4 – Spit out the nasty-ness into a wad of toilet paper, not in your drain or it will solidify in the pipes. ( not cool).
Step 5- Gargle with warm water and brush your teeth as normal

Researchers have shown that a clean mouth, free of inflammation and irritants, may prevent health problems. And if you’ve taken osteoporosis drugs in the past, it’s especially smart to avoid dental problems and gum issues. So stay away from fluoride, brush and floss often, do your coconut rinse daily for 20 mins and keep smiling, because you’re on the right track 🙂
