We’ve all heard the saying “get your beauty sleep” right? … well let’s make up a new saying how about “get your beautiful body sleep”… hm that doesn’t sound as good, but it’s so true!
It seems like the least-active part of your day (or night) could not possibly have much of an effect on helping you slide into your skinny jeans, right? Quite the opposite, actually. A recent study found so-so sleep could undermine weight loss by as much as 55 percent, meaning all of your effort in the gym is kind of pointless unless you rest up. You’re not dreaming: try out these tips to get your best body while you catch some well deserved Zzz’s!
Protein snacks only in the PM
Leave the carb heavy and sweet snacks for early on in the day when you have enough time to burn them off! Night time is a perfect time for a small protein snack. Protein is more thermogenic than carbs or fat, so your body burns more calories to digest it.
Ever wake up in the middle of the night STARVED? try to have a little snack of something high protein such as organic cottage cheese, a protein shake , or unsweetened greek yogurt with some cinnamon to keep your blood sugar stable while you sleep. This will also help your body focus on going into REM sleep rather than sending I’M HUNGRY signals to your brain all night.
Restless legs & a racing mind can keep everyone up at night. You know when you are trying to fall asleep and you remember something awkward you did 10 years ago… and then you fixate on it and start wondering how the microwave actually makes food hot… HA needless to say these are things I think of when I’m not sleeping. My best tip for calming that racing mind and easing pains from those workouts is to take Magnesium!
Magnesium deficiencies have actually been shown to cause insomnia and restless leg syndrome, so if you’re having trouble falling or staying asleep and aren’t already using these supplements, I suggest you give them a try! I love THIS one because its Ionic, which means it is broken down into small nano particle size, basically making it the perfect solution for your body to absorb!. Because all of that hard work you do with your workouts and amazing eating habits is only put to work when you sleep, this is essential for that bikini bod!
Lights out in the Kitchen!
Try to make your last snack at least 2 hours before bed. This will help your body to have the food digested by the time you go to sleep, allowing your body to focus on just doing that… sleeping!
Turn down the temp for a restful nights sleep! Studies have shown that going to sleep in a cool, breezy room can improve your sleep quality by 80 %. I mean just another reason to cuddle up to your
dog/cat partner right!?
Stop scrolling through instagram, stop snap chatting, stop laughing at videos on facebook in bed, bed time should be just for sleeping. No TV and no bright lights, take 30 mins before bed to unwind and un plug from this over stimulating world we live in. Your brain will thank you and you will get that beauty sleep with a bikini body on the side 😉
